EDUCATION TRIP TO CSIR ,PALAMPUR
On 5 December,2024 , a group of 41 students and teachers from Kendriya Vidyalaya ,Mandi visited the CSIR institute of Himalayans bioresource technology (IHBT) , located in Palampur , Himachal Pradesh . The objective of this visit was to introduce children to scientific research conducted at the institute, particularly in the field of agriculture, biotechnology and environmental conservation.
The primary aim of this visit was to :
-Explore the ongoing research projects at CSIR, Palampur
-Understand the role of science and technology in agriculture
-Observe the practical application of theoretical concepts
At around 6 o ‘clock in the morning all the students gathered in the school ground and then started their journey to Palampur via bus. It took around 3-4 hours for them to reach Palampur . After reaching CSIR, Palampur at 10 o’clock a CSIR guide took students first to the lab of tissue culturing ,where they got the idea of how to culture different endemic plants and also got to know about different hormones that promote the plant growth. Then they visit the department of hydroponic plants, the plants which are cultivated on water and aero phonic plants ,the plants which are grown on air .
Then they saw the different plant species like Rajnigandha, epiphyte plants , heeng etc…and they got to know about their benefits and the suitable environmental conditions which are required for them to grow.
Students also saw the preparation of processed food through machineries like roaster , steamer etc… and saw some processed organic food like organic pasta which is made out peas and millets and organic multigrain fruits and nut bar .
Then they went for their lunch at somewhere around 1o’clock . After lunch they explored wooden craft of CSIR and then visited chemistry lab .
The students along with teachers clicked some pictures as a memory of their journey and then they started their return journey at 4o’ clock and in between they visited the famous Shiv temple of Baijnath and finally reached mandi at 8o’ clock .
Key learning of the visit to CSIR:
-Science in everyday life: the visit highlighted how science plays a crucial role in improving the lives of people
-Sustainability and conservation: students understood the importance of conserving natural resources and using technology to protect the environmental.
-Career opportunities: the visit opened students’ eyes to the various career opportunities in the field of biotechnology, agriculture and environmental science.

EDUCATIONAL TOUR UNDER BIS
On 12th December 2024, a group of Class 11 students from Kendriya Vidyalaya, accompanied by our teachers, visited Chamunda Spun Pipes Limited in Nerchowk. The visit was organized under the guidance of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to provide us the practical exposure to the manufacturing process and
quality control measures in the industry.
We departed from school at around 10:30 AM by bus and reached the factory after a short journey. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the factory manager, who gave us an introductory briefing about the company and its operations. Chamunda Spun Pipes Limited specializes in producing high-quality spun pipes used in various infrastructure projects.
Factory Tour:
The factory tour was a great learning experience as we observed the entire process of spun pipe manufacturing. The production stages, including the preparation of raw materials, molding, spinning, and curing of the pipes, were explained to us in detail. We saw the machines that spin concrete to form the pipes, which are then cured in specially designed chambers to ensure they are strong and durable.During the tour, we were also introduced to various quality control measures in place to ensure that the pipes meet the required standards set by BIS. We were shown how the pipes are tested for uniformity, strength, and durability at every stage of the manufacturing process.
Key Learnings:
1. Manufacturing Process: We gained insight into the various stages involved in the pipe manufacturing process, from raw material preparation to final curing and quality checks.
2. BIS Standards: The importance of BIS certification in ensuring the quality and safety of spun pipes was highlighted. We learned how strict quality control checks are performed to meet industry standards.
3. Technological Integration:The use of advanced machinery and automation in the production process was impressive. The factory utilizes cutting-edge technology to maintain high efficiency and consistent product quality.
4. Sustainability Practices:The factory emphasizes sustainability by recycling waste materials and minimizing environmental impact, which we found to be a noteworthy aspect of their operations. The visit gave us valuable insights into the industrial manufacturing sector, particularly in the context of infrastructure development, and the role of BIS in ensuring product quality.
We returned to school at around 2:30 PM, feeling enriched by the experience and excited to apply the knowledge we gained to our academic studies.
Conclusion:
The visit to Chamunda Spun Pipes Limited in Nerchowk was a highly educational and informative experience. It provided us with a deeper understanding of the industrial process, the importance of quality standards, and the real-world applications of concepts we study in class. We are grateful to KV Mandi for the opportunity and look forward to similar educational experiences in the future.
